Hygiene
What is Hygiene?
Hygiene refers to the practices and habits that help maintain health and prevent the spread of diseases, especially through cleanliness. It includes activities like bathing regularly, washing hands, brushing teeth, wearing clean clothes and keeping living spaces clean. Good hygiene protects the body from infections and illnesses by removing germs and harmful substances. There are different types of hygiene, such as personal hygiene (related to the body), food hygiene (safe handling and preparation of food) and environmental hygiene (clean surroundings). Maintaining proper hygiene is essential for staying healthy and feeling good both physically and mentally.
Importance of Hygeine
Hygiene is one of the most important things which can help us prevent deadly diseases. Diseases such as pneumonia, upper respiratory infections, diarrhoea, urinary infections and eye infections are caused by poor hygiene. Hygiene with respect to what we drink, eat, inhale, or touch decides the kind of infection or ailment one will suffer from. Example: contaminated hands/utensils, water/food will lead to diarrhoea. Similarly, if we do not wear a mask in crowded places or while travelling in public transport, we do catch respiratory infections. So, hygiene is an essential modality to prevent infections. To overcome this, handwashing, clean utensils, clean food and clean water are vital.
